Famulous is actually a fingerpuppet, spied on the counter at a local (Placerville) record shop and gifted to the lovely and talented Rachel by the friendly shopkeeper. Famulous -- named by John after seeing the word in a dictionary of pretentious words [The Superior Person's Book of Words] --is this website's mascot, of sorts. Notice that John mispelled Famulus, adding an "o" to the word.

The original definition from Peter Bowler's great little book, The Superior Person's Book of Words:

FAMULUS n. A medieval sorcerer's assistant. A pleasing appelation for your husband when he is helping you in the kitchen by peeling the potatoes, drying the dishes, etc. -- or when you are entertaining. "Come into the living room and make yourself comfortable while I have my famulus mix some drinks."

Bowler followed the first book with "The Superior Person's Second Book of Weird and Wondrous Words."

P.S. Gaye discovered cousins of Famulous at a local gift and crafts store. They are all very scary looking and not nearly as maniacly charming as the original Famulous.
